Glitter Your Glasses

I love glitter.  This may stem male dominated hobbies, the fact that most of my friends are guys or that it's just shiny and pretty. A little bit of sparkle can go a long way.

My love of glitter, a few posts on Pinterest and some experiments later, I've decided to glitter some glasses.

(Originally when I did this it was for my Cousin's Christmas gift; glitter encrusted wine glasses)

You will need a few supplies:
Glasses (I got mine at Target, in the Dollar Spot at 70% off (yep, $.30 a piece!) The Dollar Tree, TJ Maxx...ect ect all have them.
Mod Podge
Tape, I used painters tape on this one, electrical tape and masking tape work too.
Paint brush, I use the foam find
Glitter, the finer the better. Mine came from the scrapbooking section of Michael's.
Acrylic Spray
Plastic wrap

Directions:

Use the tape to make a design on your glass.

Apply a layer of mod podge to your glass. You want the layer to be as even as possible.

Sprinkle on the glitter!
*I usually do my projects over newsprint or parchment paper. It's easy to pour the extra glitter back into the jar this way.*

Carefully remove the tape and set aside to dry for 24 hours.

Check your glass, use a damp paper towel to wipe off excess glitter and allow to dry.

If you need to touch up the glitter, this is a good time to do it. Use your brush to apply a very thin coat of the Mod Podge to the necessary spots and cover with glitter. Let it dry again.

Use the plastic wrap to cover any spots on your glass that you don't want to cover with acrylic spray. (If you don't want to use plastic wrap, you can use a plastic shopping bag and tape.) The spray is not intended for food surfaces and it is flammable before it's dry.

PLEASE read the label for the full instructions!

Set the glasses aside to dry.

My spray space is in my basement.  It's an old cabinent covered with plastic shopping bags.

When the acrylic spray is dry, remove the plastic wrap. If you need to tidy up any over spray, you can do so with some nail polish remover and blade or a craft knife.

Mi-Mi is trying to model the glass, it almost worked.

Now you have glittery pint glass ready to go!

Birthday Treats

Earlier this fall I made some choclate covered pretzels.

My co-workers ate the things up. On the same day Jeff showed me the snazzy treats Utz had created for this Halloween season. Snack size bags of chocolate covered pretzels sprinkled with Butterfinger crumbs! They were pretty much the equivalent to crack. WOW!

Jeff's birthday is tomorrow, so I attempted to make a version of the Butterfinger dusted pretzels.

Here's how to do it: Ingredients:
-Pretzels
-Milk Chocolate chips or candy melts
-Butterfinger candy bars
(I got mine on the 1/2 of Halloween candy rack)

What to do:
1. Put about 8 fun size Buterfinger bars in a heavy ziploc bag. Smash them up until they are crumbs.
2. Melt the chocolate. There are a few ways to melt chocolate, I use the microwave. To do this, put your chocolate in a microwave safe dish. heat on high for 25 seconds, stir. Repeat until the chocolate is melted. DO NOT OVER HEAT!
3. Dip your pretzels in the chocolate, then the butterfinger crumbs. Set on a piece of parchment or wax paper to cool. Cooling will take an hour or so.
4. Enjoy!

I have an idea for Christmas/Winter themed pretzels, just have to wait a few more weeks.

Last year I made a few sets of stitch markers for some friends as Christmas gifts. Instead of waiting until the last minute, I started them tonight! When!

Skirts, Skirts and more skirts!

I rarely see my sister-in-law, mostly because we live pretty far apart. There are a few other reasons, but those aren't important. She was here for a few days in August, so we did normal girl things, like shop. Shopping leads to the statement "I can make that", which leads to projects. So here's Aly's new skirt!

As with anything in a solid neutral color, it needed a little bit of "something". That something was this cute little tree. It's going to be incorporated into more stuff.

I decided I was going to make an afghan a few years ago. Really, it should not have been that big of a deal, but it was. I started and got stuck. My friend's mom made the blanket, so on their trip out to visit she helped me out a bit, then I got stuck. Well, it's 500+ miles (or 9 hours) to Toledo, so just asking he for help wasn't really a solution...but I finally figured it out!

It's called the Dusty Snowflake Throw, but read Heart. Since I don't really like the Red Heart Super Saver yarns, I decided to make it out of Sensations Brushed Classics from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Since I used thicker yarn, I used a larger hook.

It wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be. I was just looking too far into the directions. I guess I should package it up and ship it out to the new owners....before next Christmas.

I took a little vacation and gave away some coffee mugs

I went on a little weekend get-a-way trip with my absolute favorite person. Now, a normal person, on a normal vacation gets to do stuff like relax. I don't. I spend it driving, being in awkward family situations (a few of them), and worrying about what's going on at home. I even spent some of my driving time on a conference call for a mural project in Philly.

It was wonderful to see my friends and spend a tiny bit of time with them. Even though I spent the whole weekend with my best friend, I swear I barely got to really talk to him. That's the price of only seeing him at holidays though. Next time, maybe. The weekend is far behind me now, and the hardest part, the leaving, was just as difficult as usual. I'm back in New Jersey, the only place I can't seem to really get away from. Everything happens for a reason though, so when everything here is wrapped up, I'll know the reason, move on with my life and hopefully things will work out.

Just have to make stuff....and more stuff...and maybe more stuff.

Sometimes knitting needles get boring, so I made some a little more exciting.

The tops are made with Squinkies and some glue. I removed the tops of the knitting needles with some very old (and hard to use) bolt cutters. Really, I think these turned out pretty cute! And I'm very happy with the results!

As always there are things I'd do differently if I was going to do it again. I'd use plastic needles. Yep, that's it, some silly little change, and it's because I don't like metal needles.

I also made some stitch markers, to dd come class to the next project I make. To make these, You will need head bins, some smooth beads and the circle end of toggle style jewelry closures.

It's getting cold in Michigan

My best friend needed new mittens, so I made him a hat too! This is the second project I've ever made that uses a cable! It's not as hard as I thought.

Since I've gotten these done so early, I guess I should figure out what I'm giving him for his birthday.

My kind of Snowflakes!

A few years ago, at Christmas, my friend's mom taught me to crochet. It took a little bit of patience, and lots of ripping stuff out, but it's finally come to use. So, i'm making someone a Christmas present.

This afghan is on the Red Heart site, it's supposed to be out of Super Saver, but the Sensations (Jo-Ann's brand) yard adds a little bit of extra fluff. It's taking forever, but it's my own fault for not working on it consistently.
